Of course, Colorado weather can be a little unpredictable—one day you’re walking to work in shorts, the next you’re bundled up in a parka and muffler. However, the cold season brings a ton of fun, wintery activities. We thought we’d make a list of some of our favorites for the 2021 holiday season!

 

Whether indoors or out, here are some jolly good activities that you can only find in Longmont.

Inside:

No need to freeze your rear off to enjoy a little winter cheer. Here are five indoor activities to delight your soul.

1. Holiday Maker’s Market (Nov. 27th, 11-4 pm)

On Saturday, November 27th from 11–4 pm, head to the Altona Grange Hall for the first annual Holiday Maker’s Market. Support local, small businesses while getting in the holiday spirit and picking up handcrafted, artisan gifts and goods. In addition to booths of crafts and treats, there will be food trucks and a Santa for the kiddos!

 

2. Visit with Santa at the Callahan House (Dec. 3rd, 3:30–7:30 pm, 312 Terry St.)

Take the little ones to tell Santa what they want for Christmas on Friday, December 3rd, between 3:30 and 7:30 pm. Make sure to make a reservation, but admission is free! Enjoy the historic Callahan House in it’s Christmas finest while the kiddos get their picture with the jolly, old Saint Nick.

3. Longmont Climbing Collective (M–F: 7 am–10 pm, S: 8 am–8 pm, Su: 9 am–8 pm, 33 South Pratt Parkway)

If you’re going a little bit stir crazy in the cold, head into the Longmont Climbing Collective to break a sweat! With plenty of classes and camps for adults and kids, you can take the whole family in for some fun. And if you are of a certain age, enjoy a frosty, post-climb Grossen Bart brew in the lounge! Day passes run $20/adult, $14/kids 3-11.

4. Longmont Museum and Cultural Center (M–S: 9 am–5 pm, Su: 1–5pm, R nights 5–9 pm, 400 Quail Road)

The Longmont Museum and Cultural Center is an inspiring place to escape the cold! Interactive exhibits, panels, concerts, and films ensure there is always something to do both educational and just plain fun. On Saturday, December 4th, at 3 pm or 7 pm, come in for the 7th annual Holiday Show! with Rocky Mountain Ringers, the Boulder Klezmer Consort, and Hazel Miller and the Collective. Arrive early, at 2 pm, for a Santa reception with cocoa and cookies.

5. Take a tour of Longmont’s craft beverage scene

Longmont, CO has an enviable craft beverage community. Come in from the cold and warm up with an adult beverage. Choose from craft beer, cider, or spirits! Here are some of our favorites, but the choices are abundant. Don’t forget to get a ride if you’ve imbibed!

-Left Hand Brewing Co. (1265 Boston Ave.)

Founded in Longmont over 26 years ago, they make darn good beer and have a comfy taproom to keep cozy in.

-300 Suns Brewing (335 1rst Ave., Unit C)

They promise the “ultimate hyper-local craft experience” and they deliver. With terrific beer, great burgers, and a relaxed and relaxing atmosphere this is a must-stop on the tour.

-St. Vrain Cidery (350 Terry St. Suite 130, east side alleyway)

If you’re into ciders, St. Vrain Cidery is the place to be! Opening in 2016 as the first cidery in Boulder County, they specialize in dry, American-style ciders and offer 36 taps to choose from.

-Abbott and Wallace Distilling (350 Terry St. Suite 150)

 

Abbott and Wallace produce award winning spirits; enjoy cocktails and tastings of their whiskey, rum, gin, and amaro at their lounge. Kick back, grab a sipper, and enjoy some live music.

Outside:

Perhaps it’s the cold that you love about winter! Well then, here are a few outdoor events that should tickle your fancy!

1. Longmont Ice Pavilion (Nov. 19th–Mar. 10th, 725 8th Ave.)

What’s more winter wonderland than strapping on your ice skates and going for a whirl around the rink? The Longmont Ice Pavilion opened on November 19th. They offer public skating, lessons, hockey, and private rentals throughout the winter season.

2. Wibby Annual Winter Market Series (Wednesdays, Nov. 24th, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 22, 3:30–8:30 pm, 209 Emery St.)

In the “spirit of traditional European-style Christkindl markets,” Wibby Brewing opens their doors on Wednesdays from November through December for their Annual Winter Market Series. Each Wednesday they welcome a new selection of vendors selling hand-crafted jewelry, woodworking, ceramics, clothing, etc. In addition, enjoy small batch brews and specials, music, S’mores, ugly sweaters, and more!

3. Holiday Tree Lighting! (Nov. 26th, 6:30–7 pm, 6th Avenue Plaza)

What’s better than the Tree Lighting Ceremony to get you in the holiday mood? Stop by the 6th Avenue Plaza on November 26th at 6:30 pm for music, warm drinks and tasty treats, gift bags, crafts, and Santa!

 

4. Longmont Lights! A Holiday Celebration (Dec. 10, 5–8 pm, Roosevelt Park)

Come stroll under the magical lights of Roosevelt Park on Friday, December 10th from 5–8pm. With free, family-friendly activities and thousands of sparkling lights, a wonderful night will be had by all!

 

5. Longmont Lights! Holiday Parade (Dec. 11, 5 pm, starts at Roosevelt Park)

The twinkling floats of the Holiday Parade make for a merry and bright Saturday night. The parade starts at Roosevelt Park, making its way down both Coffman and Main Streets. The dazzling event culminates with Santa wishing all a good night.
